Release Guidelines

While we welcome our users to share their music with others, we also encourage users to abide by the Community Guidelines. Here are some other factors to avoid:

• Copyrighted Materials (including cover art, a cover of a song)
• Trademarked Materials
• Public Domain Work
• Content that you don’t have the rights to

To avoid copyright infringement, make sure you own 100% of the music you submit, or have the required licenses.

• The track must not contain a sample of a major third–party artist or a cover of a song.
• Tracks must be longer than 60 seconds.
• You cannot distribute Forked and collaborative projects.
• You can only distribute a maximum of 50 tracks per release.
• Accepted audio file formats: WAV, MP3, M4A, OGG, AAC.

Release Title

This is the official title of your single, EP, or album.

• Enter only the release title. Do not include featured artists, contributor names, or version information.
  • Correct: "The First Song"
  • Incorrect: "The First Song (feat. Artist 2)" — remove "Artist 2" from the title and enter them in the Contributors field or as an additional Primary Artist.
• Titles must not use generic, SEO-optimized keywords. Examples include names such as:
  • "Baby Sleep Sounds" or "Music for Concentration".
  • or other generic SEO terms such as "Yoga Music", "Sleep Music", or "Chillout".

Primary Artist

This is your main artist name. If you're releasing a song via BandLab Distribution, you can set an artist name. After your first release is submitted and enters status, your Primary Artist Name, Spotify, and Apple Artist profile links will be locked. Setting your artist name is permanent, so make sure it's final.

Spotify and Apple Music Artist Profiles (Optional)

If you have an existing Spotify or Apple Music Artist profile, you can link them during submission.

If you don't have one yet, leave the field blank and artist profiles will be automatically created upon successful release.

Genre

Select the genre that most closely matches your release. This helps categorize your release.

Release Date

We let you choose the ideal date to release your track on major streaming platforms. Choose your release date:

• As soon as possible: processed within 5–7 business days
• Specific date: processed between 14 days and 3 months from the day you submit
• Previous release date: For re-releases, enter the date of the original release. This will be the date reflected when your release goes live.

UPC (Optional)

Universal Product Code (UPC) identifies albums or songs and aids in music purchase and sale.

If your release was previously live, make sure to enter the original UPC. Otherwise, leave the field blank, and we will assign one automatically.

Release Documentation

Important: If you used licensed material in your release, make sure to attach the relevant licenses to the submission form. (e.g., BandLab Beats Licenses, 3rd-party non-exclusive/exclusive licenses, sample Licenses, etc.)

Track Title

• For single-track releases, the release title and track name must match.
• You can edit the release title in the first step of the distribution form to set them as the same.

Version (Optional)

Version Info indicates an alternate version of your release. If your track is a modified version of an already live track, make sure to add a Version from the predefined list. (e.g., 2026 Remastered)

If none apply, choose Other and enter your version manually:

• Must not include special characters.
• Must not include terms such as "Official", "Explicit", or "New".

Additional Artists (Optional)

Use this field to add additional primary artists to the track (up to 4 total). Do not add contributor information in brackets, such as "[feat. Artist]".

Composer

Enter the First name and Last name of the composer. You must use the standardized first and last legal names, not an artist name.

The composer field is a legal requirement for licensing and earnings. Make sure that you put your full name to avoid release rejection. Songwriter credits are not displayed prominently. If your stage name is your real name, you can duplicate it in the required fields.

Lyrics & Lyricist

• Lyrics: Select the appropriate language of your track. If it has no lyrics, select Instrumental.
  • If your release has more than one language, pick the one that’s used the most.
• Explicit Content: Only enable this if your track contains explicit language.
• Lyricist: Enter the full legal name of the person who wrote the lyrics. To learn more about how your data is handled, see our Privacy Policy.

Contributor (Optional)

ISRC (Optional)

International Standard Recording Code (ISRC) is the internationally recognized ID for sound and music video recordings. We provide an ISRC code for songs released with BandLab Digital Distribution.

Publisher (Optional)

Enter the name of your music publisher, if you have one.

Performers (Mandatory for Apple Music)

Enter the legal name of the person or people who performed on the track or played an instrument.

If you performed all instruments yourself, list your own legal name.

Production (Mandatory for Apple Music)

Enter the name of the person or people responsible for the technical and creative production of the track. (e.g., Producer or Engineer)

Streaming services may reject any artwork that does not follow the requirements. To prevent this from happening, your cover art must meet the following requirements.

Image Formatting

• Use high-quality original artwork that you own.
• Use a square image with a minimum size of 1400 × 1400 px (JPG or PNG, up to 10 MB).
• Use images without additional text outside of your artist name, release title, and label name.
• Use unique images that are not duplicated across releases.
• Do not use images with cut-off text or distorted visuals.

Image Content

• Additional text outside the artist name, release title, and label name. For example, do not add phrases such as "Out on all platforms".
• Your cover art title must exactly match the title entered in your release metadata. For example, if your release title is "My First Song", the cover art must not include extra words, symbols, or characters.
• Your cover art artist name must match your artist name exactly. For example, if your artist name is "Artist X", the cover art must not display "Artist X Beats".

Additionally, ensure your cover art doesn't contain:

• Blurry or pixelated images
• URLs, email addresses, phone numbers, barcodes, or social media handles
• Illegal or offensive material (nudity, drugs, extreme violence, etc.)
• Copyrighted or trademarked material (logos, company names, etc.)
• References to pricing
• Misleading information (images or names of artists not on albums, etc.)
• Upsells to another product elsewhere
