Resolving distribution issues and release rejections shouldn't be a guessing game. This guide covers common issues with loops, leased beats, artwork requirements, duplicate releases, metadata, and how to submit an appeal.
-
Loops: Public, unedited loops can match existing registered tracks.
- Fix: Alter the pitch, chop the audio, or add effects to modify public loops significantly.
-
Leased Beats: Beats from a third-party marketplace or producers can trigger automated rights detectors if used by multiple artists.
- Fix: Gather your lease agreement (PDF) and purchase receipt to verify rights during an appeal.
Re-uploading old drafts or moving tracks from another distributor without entering the original ISRC triggers duplicate warnings. The metadata must be kept the same as the original (i.e., title, featuring artists, etc.). A slightly different title on a previous live release will cause issues in stores.
Fix: Manually enter the original ISRC code in your release settings to retain stream counts and verify ownership.
- Cover art must be a square image (1400 x 1400 pixels; recommended up to 3000 x 3000 pixels) containing only the artist name, track title, or original artwork.
- Avoid prohibited visuals such as social media handles, website URLs, promotional text ("Out Now"), store logos, stock images, or copyrighted characters.
-
Cover Art: Bad dimensions or prohibited text/logos.
- Fix: Upload clean original artwork 1400 x 1400 pixels; recommended: up to 3000 x 3000 pixels.
- Metadata & Credits: Using stage names instead of standardized names for credits, or adding extra tags like "Demo" in titles.
-
Copyright & Audio: Uncleared samples, unlicensed covers, low bitrate MP3s, or corrupt files.
- Fix: Upload high-resolution WAV/FLAC files and secure full legal permissions.
This error means the audio or ISRC is already live or registered. You cannot edit a rejected submission.
- Check existing catalogs to see if the track is already live.
- Start a brand-new release submission.
- Use version fields (e.g., "Remix") to distinguish alternate audio.
- Verify ISRCs and never reuse an active ISRC for a brand-new master recording.
- Ensure that the track titles from a previous release, such as a single, are retained in the album version.
- Delayed / Pending Review: Ensure a payout method is set up on your account.
- Missing Platform: Submit a support ticket containing your release UPC and the missing store name.
- Wrong Artist Profile: Submit a Remapping Request to Support including URLs for the incorrect release and your correct profile, along with the title and ISRC/UPC. If you don't have a profile yet, we can request that one be created for you.
