The BandLab Studio is a free, cloud-based Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) that lets you record, edit, and mix music in your browser or on your phone. You can create projects up to 15 minutes long and layer up to 16 Audio and MIDI tracks.
You can start making your own songs in the Studio as soon as you sign up.

Create button in the top-right corner.
- Click
New Project to open the BandLab Studio.
- From the BandLab app's main page, go to
the Create tab
- Tap
Open Studio
The first time you enter a new project, you'll be asked to add a New Track to get you started. You can add a Voice/Audio track to record live vocals, an Instrument track to record with BandLab Virtual Instruments, import Audio and MIDI files, or add BandLab Sounds from our library, and more.
To help kickstart things, let's start by adding a sample from our Sounds Library:
- In the New Track pop-up, click BandLab Sounds at the bottom right.
- On your left, you can browse the library and find a sample you'd like to add. It can be a simple drum or piano loop.
- Double-click or drag the sample into your project.
- In the New Track pop-up, tap BandLab Sounds at the bottom right.
- Browse the library and find a sample you want to add. It can be a simple drum or piano loop.
- Double-tap any sample to add it to your project.
Let's add a new Voice/Audio track so we can record some vocals:
- Click the
Add Track button above your tracks.
- In the New Track pop-up, click Voice/Audio.
- Connect your instrument or microphone to your device.
- From the
AutoPitch tab in the lower left, select your mic or instrument as your Input Device, then select the Input Channels.
- Check the Input Level meter and make sure the Studio is getting a signal from your recording device.
- Tap the
Add Track button in the top-left corner of the Studio, just below the exit button.
- In the New Track pop-up, tap Voice/Audio.
- Connect your instrument or microphone to your device.
- Go to the
Studio Settings and set your Input Device and Input Channel. If you're using Android, the Studio follows your device's main sound settings. Input device selection is only available on iOS.
Next, let's set the project's vibe. Before you record, look at the top toolbar in the Studio. You should first turn the Metronome on so you have a steady beat to follow while recording. If you're on mobile, you can set this in the Studio Settings tab.
Let's start recording! Double-check that your Input Device and Channel are properly set up and that you're getting a signal. Once that's set, click or tap the Record button.
Now you've got your first track recorded. This is a good time to spice up that vocal track by adding an FX Preset. BandLab offers a wide range of FX Presets suitable for various music styles, adding color to your recordings. Learn more about Adding Effects.
