Distortions when recording
If your voice or instrument is recorded too loudly, the signal exceeds the maximum recording level (0 dBFS). This causes digital clipping, which creates harsh distortion and permanently damages the recording quality.
- Maintain a good distance between you and your microphone to prevent distortions when singing loudly.
- Reduce the input gain of your recording device to avoid going into red, which indicates clipping/distortion
Note: Always turn down the physical input gain control on your external hardware interface or USB microphone if the channel meter flashes into the red, rather than adjusting the software track fader.
Distortions when mixing
Every mix has a limit to how loud it can be. If multiple tracks or effects push the volume past that limit, you'll hear distortion instead of clean audio.
- Keep the Master volume meter out of the red. If it turns red, your mix is too loud and may distort.
- Lower the volume of individual tracks instead of the Master fader, and use EQ and Compression to balance the sound so no frequencies are too loud or too quiet. This helps your mix sound clear and even while maintaining a healthy overall volume.
Distortions when using Bluetooth
Wireless Bluetooth connections lack the pipeline bandwidth required for real-time multitrack audio production. Distorted or muffled Bluetooth audio during recordings can also occur if your device switches from the high-bandwidth stereo profile to the low-bandwidth "Hands-Free" profile
- Switch to Wired Headphones: BandLab strongly recommends using analog wired headphones. This ensures that your recordings stay in sync and helps prevent latency or audio quality issues caused by Bluetooth connections.
Audio Safe Mode
Some Android devices may experience compatibility issues due to the wide variety of Android hardware and software implementations. One example is the "chipmunk" effect during recording.
If your vocal or instrument recordings sound unusually high-pitched (the "chipmunk" effect), enabling Audio Safe Mode might fix the issue.
