Visual EQ is a BandLab effect designed to help fine-tune and balance the frequency spectrum of your recordings and music tracks with precision. It provides real-time spectrum visualisation, enabling you to see the impact of your adjustments immediately.
Key Features
- Three Customizable Filter Nodes: Allows for filter type selection, gain adjustment, frequency range (20 Hz - 20 kHz), and width control
- Interactive Visual Section: Features filter curves that appear/disappear based on activity, single/double tap interactions to select/activate filters, and pinch gestures for width control
- Real-Time and Accurate Visualization: Displays the audio frequency spectrum with grid lines and labels for easy reference
This feature is currently only available with a BandLab Membership. Check out all the perks included with a Membership here!
Visual EQ Parameters
- Frequency: Adjusts which pitch you are selecting as a reference point for the filter
- Gain: Adjusts how much the volume increases or decreases
- Width (Q): Determines how broad or narrow the range of frequencies affected by your EQ adjustments will be. A narrow width targets a small range of frequencies, while a wide width affects a broader range
Types of Filters
-
Low Pass: A low-pass filter allows lower frequencies to pass through while reducing or cutting higher frequencies
-
High Pass: A high-pass filter allows higher frequencies to pass through while reducing or cutting lower frequencies
-
Band Pass: A bandpass filter only allows a specific range of frequencies to pass through, cutting both the lower and higher frequencies outside that range
-
Low Shelf: A lowshelf filter boosts or cuts all frequencies below a certain point (frequency) by the same amount
-
High Shelf: A highshelf filter boosts or cuts all frequencies above a certain point by the same amount
-
Peak: A peaking filter boosts or cuts frequencies around a central point, creating a peak or dip in the EQ curve
-
Notch: A notch filter cuts a very narrow range of frequencies, almost completely removing them
How do I use the Visual EQ?
- In the Studio, add a Visual EQ to your track
- Click an EQ node to filter (1, 2, or 3)
- Select the Filter Type from the dropdown
- Move the node around to simultaneously adjust the Gain and Frequency. You can also adjust this from the knobs below. To revert to the default values, double-click on each knob
- To disable a node, double-click on the node or click the node toggle
