BandLab Licensing is a program that allows us to help our users license, represent, and earn from their music. We source placements of your music in many settings, from traditional TV or film sync placements to advertisements to usage in gaming or metaverse contexts to usage in other new forms of licensing like user-generated content.
Is my music being considered in the program?
After being accepted into BandLab Licensing, BandLab will handle all of the negotiations and licensing on a pre-cleared basis to sign off on placements on your behalf. You'll be informed of a license after it has been completed, but we'll always strive to inform you of higher-profile placements of your music so that you can get the full promotional benefit of being heard on a Netflix show, for example.
How do I work with BandLab Licensing for music licensing projects?
BandLab Licensing is open for business with the music supervisor and broader music licensing community. The BandLab team is here to work with you to surface the ideal artist and song for your licensing needs. Reach out and let's work together!
How and where will my songs be licensed?
Potential licensors include TV networks, ad agencies, filmmakers, game developers, and companies needing background music synchronized to their projects as well as other audio needs for content and advertisements.
How often will I be licensed and how long does it take to get a license?
There’s no guarantee that your music will be licensed and there is no set timeline for when your music might get placed. Behind the scenes, we are seeking opportunities to match your tracks with available placements. If your music is licensed for a commercial, TV show, video game, or film, you might not be notified in advance due to the quick-moving nature of the music synchronization and licensing space. However, any licenses and corresponding payments will appear in your account once received and processed.
How much will I earn from my music being licensed?
The payouts vary greatly depending on the project, the licensor, and the actual usage. Typically, larger fees are associated with placements in TV, movies, or commercials, but the amount depends on each specific deal and the stature of the licensor. You will receive 50% of the fees collected on your behalf as stated in the BandLab Licensing agreement.
How will you expose my music to licensors?
Our team is sourcing opportunities with licensors of music, including music supervisors, brands, and media studios. To improve your chances of being a fit for a project, it’s important to include accurate metadata when submitting your music.
Does opting into BandLab Licensing limit me from working with other companies?
BandLab licensing is a non-exclusive grant of rights, meaning you can work with other licensing companies simultaneously. However, you can't have an exclusive agreement with another company and work with BandLab Licensing. If your other agreement(s) are non-exclusive, there should be no problems.
Do I keep my ownership and rights after opting-in to BandLab Licensing?
Yes, you retain all ownership of your copyrights. By opting in, you grant only non-exclusive licensing and synchronization rights, allowing BandLab to negotiate and give permission for the use of your music in TV, ads, video games, films, and other mediums without requiring your direct approval in advance of a license. BandLab Licensing's pre-approved tracks are more appealing to music supervisors seeking quick licensing options.
